Fish is a command in Dank Memer that allows you to catch fish. Within the fish command, fish and tools that you can obtain are not physical items, and can instead be found in the Fish Bucket or Fish Tank. The most up to date fishing information is on the dank memer website. [1] This page is not up to date.

Overview & Catching Fish[]

The main interface for catching fish.

Using /fish catch, you can choose the equipment you'd like to use and the location you'd like to travel to before starting to fish. This will start a minigame where you can move your tool around with the buttons (see image). Shadows will appear in the water that show that there are fish to catch - it could be an underwater mine, though, so watch out! Triggering a mine will take away durability from your current tool.

Fish Catch Minigame

When you find a boss, two mines will appear in the fish minigame (this can be changed through skills).

Equipment[]

By default, everyone uses their bare hands to fish, but it cannot use bait or catch bosses or items unless you upgrade your fishing skills. You can unlock more tools and different baits by finding them in other places around the bot through methods like season pass rewards, the fish shop, and lootboxes.

Fish Buckets[]

Fish caught from /fish catch and /fish idle will be managed differently. What you catch is stored in a fishing bucket, and you have limited bucket space. With the /fish buckets command, you can sell any number of your fish, equip and organize your buckets, rename fish, and choose fish display in your fish tank. You can unlock more bucket slots and hold more buckets at once through the Storage Specialist skill tree.

Buckets and Bucket Slots[]

Most users have two buckets by default: a Wooden Bucket and a Pink Bucket that they unlocked through the Bit of a Change Event. You can see how much your buckets can hold in /fish catch or by looking at the /fish buckets command. When your bucket is full, you can continue fishing for XP and to fill up your guide book, but you won’t be able to keep any of the creatures you catch until you make space in your bucket by either selling them or moving them into the fish tank.

Buckets have different amounts of space: for example, the default Wooden Bucket has 5 space, while the Pink Bucket has 10. Better buckets can be obtained through the Fish Shop, including the Metal, Pepe, and Golden Bucket, which have 10, 15, and 20 space respectively.

To use a bucket, you must equip it in a bucket slot. There are a maximum bucket slots, but you can only use one at a time and will be immediately occupied by the wooden bucket. To unlock more bucket slots, you have to earn skill points and level up the Storage Specialist skill tree. Upgrading this skill can also increase the space in your buckets.

If you want to use a different bucket, press "Manage Slots", select the slot you want to use, and select the bucket you want to equip.

Managing Creatures[]

If you view a bucket, you can see the fish that are contained within. There are options to rename them, move them to the fish tank, and sell them. You can sell them for coins or tokens, which can be spent in the fish shop to buy equipment and items.

Fish Guidebook[]

The Fish Guidebook (/fish guide) is a helpful guide about everything you've encountered while fishing. It contains valuable information about types of fish, when fish are available, locations, NPCs, skill challenges, and info about tools and baits. You can also feature a catch on the front page of your guidebook.

Additionally, you can also view a summary of your fishing statistics, including:

Idle Fishing[]

Idle Fishing is a major part of fishing that allows you to catch fish automatically at a base interval of every 30 minutes. It can be upgraded through the AFK and Delegator skill trees.

The idle fishing machine can catch fish from all locations, allowing you to make decent profit with minimal effort. Do note that it can catch fish from Mystic Pond on days other than Tuesday and Saturday, allowing you to obtain Mystic Pond-exclusive fish on any day. When the idle fishing machine is full, it will stop running and send you a dm informing you that it can no longer catch fish. By default, it can only hold 5 fish, but you can increase it through the AFK skill tree.

Once you upgrade the AFK Skill Tree enough, you can equip specific baits (AFK III) and target specific locations (AFK IV) to fish from. With AFK VI, it will be able to catch bosses. However, any upgrades after AFK III requires the Seasoned Angler Badge, making AFK VI insufficient to get bosses into the guidebook.

NPC encounters[]

While fishing, you may encounter NPCs. At launch, there are 6 NPCs: Zara Grey, Chad Erningway, Chet Sterling, Samuel Booker, Margaux Handler, and the Mysterious Figure. NPCs can send you on tasks, give you items, ask for a fish the player just caught, request a trade, or strike up a conversation.

All NPCs[]

Zara "Fisherwoman" Grey[]

ZaraGrey

"Fisherwoman"

Zara Grey is the first NPC you encounter and she serves as a guide, being the person who shows you the ropes in the fishing tutorial and gives you fishing tips throughout your journey. She has a warm, helpful personality.

Description
"For Zara, fishing is more than just a hobby. It's a way of life. Whether she's running her bait and tackle shop, spending the day on the water reeling them in, or teaching teens the joy of fishing every summer at camp, there is nothing she'd rather be doing. She's a proud part of her community, and always willing to give a helping hand to those in need."

Chad "The Giga" Erningway[]

ChadErningway

"The Giga"

Chad Erningway is an athletic person who cares about his fitness and loves working out, often asking you to turn in a fish to "prove that you're strong enough to do so" as your task.

Description
"Chad wasn't always so perfect, but puberty blessed him, and here we are. He had a rough time as a kid, getting bullied and picked on, so he got fit. Now he uses his charisma and good looks to do good, even if he unintentionally steals your romantic interests and your mom's love."

Chet "Crypto Bro" Sterling[]

ChetSterling

"Crypto Bro"

Chet Sterling is an NFT seller who is all about efficiency. He likes it when he profits, and isn't afraid to share his techniques with other people. Additionally, he loves mentioning NFTs and uses plenty of smart words like "validating data", "deal", "insider info", and "easy money".

"Time is money, and money is life. If you aren't here to talk about profit potential, then what are you even doing?"

Margaux "Robbie" Handler[]

MargauxHandler

"Robbie"

Margaux Handler is a very friendly NPC who enjoys the company of people and friends, often complimenting your achievements and requesting to be best friends and trade. She was unlocked during the Bit of a Change Event.

Samuel "Tired Dad" Booker[]

SamuelBooker

"Tired Dad"

Samuel Booker is a tired and overworked father with at least one child. He cares a lot about his children and his wife, and seems to be friends with the user - in question, you. He will often go out of his way and collect cool souvenirs like candies for you.

Description
"Samuel is a family man. Formerly a woodworker, as soon as he looked into the eyes of his first child, he knew all he wanted to do was stay at home and be with them. Luckily, his kid loves fishing and demands he takes them out to look at the 'pwetty fishes'."

“Mysterious Figure”[]

MysteriousFigure

"Mysterious Figure"

An ominous cloaked individual who resides at Mystic Pond. During an encounter, they often tell you that “someone is watching”.

"Mermaid"

Meridian is a mermaid with luscious, flowing green hair and a blue bra of shells that seems to be adorned with rubies. She has blue earrings and a pink coral crown. Fiercely fighting for the ocean and against humans violating the realm, she also spends her free time learning about humans.

Description
"She may look like a delicate princess, but the water is her realm, and she has spent her life fiercely defending anything wihin it. When she's not going to war against oil companies and commercial fisheries, she's busy studying humans and learning all she can. Don't end up on her bad side, or you'll end up at the bottom of the ocean somewhere."

Thrym, the "Golden Leash"[]

Thyrm

"Golden Leash"

A winter hound with heterochromia (one eye is blue and the other red). They keep themselves covered in their iconic red coat. Rather rude to the player, and often orders them to catch fish for the “pack”.

Description:
"He doesn't steal things, he rehomes them, and anyone who says differently can discuss it with the pack. The woods are no playground and are as dangerous as they come, but he can arrange some protection for you for the right price."

Reputation[]

ReputationBar

The reputation bar in /fish guide. In this image, the player has attained a reputation with the NPC where they “Love” the player.

Disclaimer: Interactions are based on luck; meaning that it is not assured that a bad reputation with always get you bad items, nor with a good one get you better items. The reputation increases only the likelihood of it.

Reputation is a big part in NPCs. It affects how often they visit, the gifts they offer you, and more. Reputation is divided into 7 different levels, from negative to positive:

  • Despises: The worst reputation that can be obtained and is the complete opposite to being adored, where items and encounters are less often. When getting to the very bottom of the reputation bar with any NPC, the player will receive the "NPC HATER!" title. When getting to the very bottom of the reputation bar with all NPCs, the player will receive 2 fish skill points from the skill challenge “NPC Hater”.
  • Hates: The second worst reputation attainable with an NPC. Interactions should now be significantly less frequent than it is being adored by any NPC.
  • Dislikes: A low-neutral relationship with NPCs, and the third worst. The player should overall get less interactions with them.
  • Doesn’t Mind: The default reputation without any interactions prior at all; this is the utter neutral relationship with an NPC, and is the start where NPCs will visit you more often.
  • Likes: A high-neutral relationship with NPCs, and the third best. The player should overall get more interactions with them.
  • Loves: The second best reputation attainable with an NPC. Interactions should now be significantly more frequent than it is being despised by any NPC.
  • Adores: The best reputation that can be obtained, and is the complete opposite to being despised, where items and encounters are more often. When getting to the very top of the reputation bar with any NPC, the player will receive the “NPC Stan” title.

Fishing Season Pass[]

Every three months or so, a new season pass is implemented. Users can decide which season pass they want to level up and when they want to receive their rewards - however, once a season ends, they can no longer use that pass without Premium. The current season pass is "Season of Fire".

You can upgrade your Season Pass to Premium or Premium+.

Differences between Fishing 1.0[]

  • During legacy fishing, items you obtained would be added to your inventory. Since creatures, tools, and baits all have their own individual data to store, storing each variant as an item wouldn't be possible due to the sheer variety of creatures. This is why they aren't visible in the inventory or currency log, and can't be traded (on the market or with friends) or put in the showcase. Any creatures or items you’ve collected will be trackable in your /fish log. You can view, sell, and manage the creatures you’ve caught using the /fish buckets command and even choose to display a creature in your /fish tank.
